Spreading mischief, pawns, and washing machines
Here's how Just About is enriching our members after another record payout! And also: April Fool's Day
April Fool’s Day is a dicey event; poorly handled, it risks mean-spiritedness. But one of the things we’re most proud of is the positivity on our platform, and even on Mischief Day, Just About has been an entirely wholesome place to spend time.
And so, with Easter weekend and another record payout to our members landing at the same time, this week’s newsletter is a celebration of good vibes. Let’s get cosy!
Pawnfoolery
With wholesome mischief firmly in mind, we put up several bounties for April Fool’s Day. Our members responded in spirit:
They’ve invented some amazingly high-tech pranks on Just About Tech
They’ve shared 11 terrific April Fool’s Day gags from the gaming world
We’re still celebrating the best rug-pull moments in Film, TV, and video games
We’re still playing games of Wrong Answers Only on Just About EVE and Music
“I’m all for April Fool’s jokes, but they have to be done well, and can’t be to the detriment of a person.”
That’s what FUN INC says in our bounty about how content creators can celebrate the occasion. It’s an attitude that’s echoed across the platform, whether in Sturmer’s thread on finding the right balance, or Horror and Cats’s “very tame” prank.
In the spirit of the season, we just closed two delightfully silly guest bounties from streamer Platform32 - aka Eurogamer’s Ian Higton - with which we celebrated the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2:
Clips of the player physically throwing their AI companions (pawns) around
Clips of the player thrashing in the air after jumping off of tall things
All told it’s been even more fun than usual on Just About, and wonderful to see our community embrace the positive aspect of April Fool’s Day as their instinct.
Record-breaking payout
The best bit of all of this playfulness is that the platform is as rewarding as ever.
The end of a month means payout day, when members collect their just reward for making Just About a better place. March has been another record-breaking month - that makes four in a row! - and some folks shared what they put their earnings toward.
Horror and Cats is covering 90 days’ worth of litter for their five cats, and says they’ve made more in just one month on Just About than in 20 on YouTube. EveOnlineTutorials wrote a touching post to say thanks for their new washing machine, bought and paid for with Just About rewards.
Finally, Dave bought Nightingale solely to take part in our community, and used his winnings there to buy Dragon’s Dogma so they could do the same in our next community, as well as “a decent mic” to expand their content creation ambitions.
These are real stories of members enriching their lives and their creativity as a direct result of our model.
They’re also deciding their next game purchase because of it. If you’re a game developer or otherwise interested in setting up a community like this for your brand, reach out to us here.
