Post-Beta building and holiday fun on Just About
We've been working hard since last week, but we've got festivities planned too...
Last week, we squandered perfectly good champagne bottles (not really) over the hull of the Just About Beta. We’ve since been hard at work reviewing the launch and continuing to build, and it isn’t even small stuff - the last week has seen us put in place some important pieces of our growth plan.
But work hard, play hard, right? We also want to show you how we’re celebrating the holiday season on Just About, with some fun festive activities including another boundary-pushing bounty.
Let’s get into it.
Post-Beta building
With the rollout of the Just About Beta, last week was our biggest since we launched our rickety (yet charming) Alpha back in June. If you missed it, check out the announcement for all the details on what’s changed and why we’re so excited for 2024.
We’ve since seen an influx of new members, so if you’ve been here a while, please continue to make them feel welcome!
But we’re not quite ready to call it a year. Here’s a quick rundown of the technical work we’ve put out just in the past week:
Windowed replies on threads, enabling massive discussions by rendering and derendering comments as you scroll (we’ve been having a lot of fun posting nonsense in our testing grounds);
An all-new sitemap, helping search engines to understand our content;
And a fresh RSS feed, enabling us to serve it beyond the platform in all sorts of useful new ways.
Now that we’ve opened the gates, these updates will let us hook Just About into the wider internet, whether through search engines or by playing nice with other intermediaries.
Work hard, play hard
A couple of weeks ago we discussed ways Just About can celebrate relevant news events like The Game Awards and the GTA 6 trailer. Christmas and other celebrations are a bit like that, and also a bit not.
They’re not about announcements, but feelings: reflection on the year just gone and the one to come, gratitude and joy.
These, more than most, are feelings that benefit from community, and any good community should embrace them. That’s why we’ve got lots planned to help all members fulfil the obligations of the season to be jolly. Come and see!
On Just About Video Games: write a gaming-themed version of A Christmas Carol, take the best festive screenshot, and help crown our Game of the Year
On Just About Content Creators: help set some useful goals for 2024 or share advice on how to manage your channels while switching off for the holidays
Most importantly, check out our holiday treasure hunt. Up to $50 awaits the first member to find a certain elusive prankster, thoughtlessly dropping laughing Santa emojis all over our platform.
There’s plenty more to come across Just About, so expect a quick breakdown of all the festive fun in our final newsletter of the year next week. A certain special occasion awaits between now and then, however, for those who celebrate it.
And so: please have a very happy Christmas, from our team to yours!
