Omelettes congeal
After a week of Just About EVE Online, evidence is mounting that we're on to something
There are many evocative metaphors about making things. Rome wasn’t built in a day, many hands make light work (unless they’re cooks, in which case they spoil the broth), and you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs.
There should be one to capture the confidence that comes from the early signs that a project is on the right path, because we’ve seen many of those on Just About lately.
Virtuous cycles and a week of EVE
Just About EVE Online has been live for over a week now and the response from our burgeoning community has been beyond expectations. We’ve been delighted to see so many veteran EVE players joining, tackling bounties, starting and participating in polls, and sticking around to chat. We’ve already made a few adjustments based on their feedback.
By audience request we took a more proactive approach to editing our latest curated article, which wraps up the sparkling response to the weekend’s hot take contest. We’re currently running a bounty for bounty ideas that’s seen even more engagement, giving us some fantastic material that we know the community will enjoy because it comes from the community. This is the virtuous cycle we hoped for, just starting to spin up.
Better yet, our EVE Partner members are spreading the word off-platform. Rupert accepted the invitation to give an interview to Sorry in Advance, and Wadd Enderas put together a neat breakdown of Just About, which you can watch below:
Gamescom, error pages, and an update tease
There’s a sense of serendipity to all this, as it’s happening just two weeks ahead of Gamescom. Al, Rupert, and Joel have all got packed diaries for the show and are champing at the bit to share the progress we’ve made toward proving our core thesis: by properly recognising and rewarding members, we can generate activity and nurture better communities.
Comments like this, on a member-created poll about our bounty system, are exactly why we continue to believe that:
The tech team continues to work their magic, squashing bugs on Just About EVE like it’s Just About Starship Troopers. Link-sharing for comments now works as intended, and we’ve got new custom error pages with a giant emoji that reminds me vaguely of Commander Keen’s Dopefish. What’s that? You’d like to see one? Go on then.
Some background code has also been deployed for something hugely exciting that I’m not allowed to talk about yet, but keep an eye on your inboxes. It’s - hopefully - coming very soon, and will put in place another plank of our unique platform.
Construction metaphors galore. This sense of things coming together deserves it, though. Gusts of wind beneath our wings? That moment when an omelette starts to congeal in just the right way?
Hm. We’ll keep working on it. In the meantime, come on back to Just About and take a look!
