Just About Books & Comics is our new Space, launched in 48 hours
It wasn’t planned at the start of last week, now it’s live. Here’s why.
In the past week - in two events of definitely comparable impact - Hades II surprise-launched into Early Access and we surprise-launched our newest Space: Just About Books & Comics!
It’s already off to a roaring start, perhaps because it was a response to a request from a member - one which we satisfied within 48 hours.
Our first wave of broad-interest Spaces has been live for about three months now, but even at the time we were thinking about the second. Books & Comics was one of the ideas; we just didn’t know where to prioritise it.
And then last Wednesday, one of our members started a discussion requesting just such a Space, and it drew a lot of agreement. So that pretty much gave us our answer.
The first wave was a carefully planned affair, whereas this time, we took the spontaneous discussion as a challenge: could we respond spontaneously? Less than 48 hours later, another new community on Just About was live.
What can I do on Just About Books & Comics?
In the ‘asked and answered’ spirit of the launch, one of our first bounties is a suggest-a-bounty, and it’s already heaving with bright ideas from our members that’ll help us set the course.
If you love Books & Comics, you can get involved in this and two other bounties, all live now:
The members who were clamouring for a place to talk about the written word have also been filling it with life. Paul asks what we’re all reading, the response to our launch poll reveals a lot of sci-fi and fantasy lovers on the platform, and Horror & Cats has made a video about comics in the horror genre.
What does Just About Books & Comics signify?
We’re really pleased about this Space and the manner in which we launched it.
Explaining why without the kind of mawkish clichés made doubly hideous by soft-focus corporate promotional videos is tricky - we don’t think of our platform as being ‘ours’, folks - but we’ve said this from the start, we actually mean it, and we think decisions like this prove it. This newsletter has made a point of naming examples of bug fixes or feature rollouts that were prioritised or even initiated because our members asked for them.
Now we’ve created a whole Space for the same reason.
(It’s just a bonus that several of our content team love books and comics, and are excited for personal reasons to have a nice, friendly place to talk more about them.)
This is the ethos of Just About in action. If you’d like us to bring it to your brand, send us an email.
