Jaw-toe-mod and an all-new earnings page
This week, we’re talking about moderation. Most of Just About’s core systems are in place, and per our roadmap, we’ll be heading into beta soon. There are just a few more things we need to build before we’re ready.
Growth in moderation
Everyone on the platform right now is lovely, and we haven’t needed to do much of this beyond a couple of friendly reminders about our AI policy. But our promise to members is that we’ll build the healthiest, friendliest places on the internet to enthuse about your passions.
To keep that promise at scale, we need to beef a few things up.
And so to cheese slices (the holey kind). Problematic content doesn’t fall neatly into buckets - issues vary in nature, there is nuance, there are edge cases - and so no one layer of protection will ever be perfect.
We’re building a three-layer system:
Automated moderator
Human community moderators
Moderation by Just About staff (also human)
If each layer is a cheese slice, with specific holes not shared by other layers, then the three slices together will catch and flag all issues of substance. Or so goes the theory.
JAutoMod - pronounced ‘jaw-toe-mod’ - is one component of our automated layer, and will check URLs that are included in posts. If you see something like the below, don’t panic:
This just means that the website you linked to is new to the tool, and that a human moderator will soon check and add it to our already-substantial whitelist (assuming it’s safe). We’ll share more about our moderation suite - our cheese slices - soon.
Welcome Nicole!
We’re thrilled to welcome a new member of the Just About team who will test this theory by flooding the platform with new users, just as soon as we’re ready to open the doors a little wider. Nicole Smith is our new Head of Growth Marketing, and brings tailor-made experience from Twitch, Fandom, and TIME. Do say hello if you see her around!
Finally, we’ve made a few handy tweaks to your earnings page (the place you go if you click on the stacked coins in the nav bar). You’ll now find a way to navigate to your own posting history, mentions, notifications, and any posts you’ve bookmarked.
Head on back to Just About and check it out!
