“Just About is a new community platform that unites fans and pays them fairly for creating the best content and conversation on the internet.” That’s our mission statement. Today we’d like to talk about the “pays them” bit.
We’ve spoken before about bounties, which let us invite specific content from members in exchange for real money (catch up here if this is news to you), and it’s been brilliant to see the bounties in our new community, Just About EVE Online, generate all the excitement we hoped they would.
But they’re only one piece of the puzzle.
We reward expertise…
Sneaking in among the lovely discussions and polls you see on our communities, you’ll notice ‘curated’ articles. This compilation of EVE players telling tales of white-knuckle PvP kills is an important example; it’s the first article assembled from winning bounty submissions.
If bounties let us pose the crucial questions about a topic, curated articles (or videos, or photo galleries) let us collect the answers. Since those answers come from the experts - that is, the community - they’ll be the best ones out there. That means they deserve the widest possible audience, and their authors deserve a reward.
In future, we’ll position this content for success on the open internet, and run ads on it. If you contributed, you’ll get a share of the ad revenue. It’s unlikely to be life-changing sums at first, but it’ll be fair. And if your expertise makes it into several high-traffic articles that wind up at the top of Google, who knows what’s possible?
…and we like good people
As well as generating quality content, we want to reward the people who make the internet a better place - people who help others, get positive reactions, start engaging discussions, and generally spread good vibes. A system of organic rewards, drawn from community treasuries, is under construction to celebrate and elevate this behaviour.
Finally, as we look to hand over communities to their members, we’ll have something extra for the folks who step up to take the reins. Moderation and article curation will each be formal roles assigned to community members, with bonus rewards for the effort involved in what they do and its critical importance for community health.

These features are all coming soon - you can check out our roadmap here - but in the meantime, we’ve just launched a slew of new bounties for the second week of Just About EVE. Browse the live slate here and if there’s nothing that takes your fancy, there’s even a bounty for bounties! Head here to tell us which bounties you’d like to see in future and, if it’s practicable and the community likes it, we may just do it.
