Announcing Just The Royal Writ!
We're partnering with Yogscast Games on rewards for a royal roguelike
Ingenious card-battling mechanics. A roguelike that demands sacrifice. Utterly delightful art.
The Royal Writ is a medieval deckbuilder that brings all this together: it’s got a bit of Balatro, a bit of Slay the Spire, and a lot of adorable battle-hardened animals. We’re thrilled to announce not only that it’s our latest partnered game, but that we’re working with its very special publisher to bring it to Just: Yogscast Games.
Let’s tell you more.
Rewards fit for royalty
In The Royal Writ, you must carefully place an army of animal soldiers across a three-lane battlefield. They deal damage as they advance - all brought to life with charming art and animations - but any card that reaches the enemy base is permanently destroyed for the rest of the run.
Our rewards are designed to get players digging into the game’s unique mechanics and celebrating its distinctive look:
Most roguelikes engender a hoarding mentality. Resources are precious and progress comes from being very careful in their expenditure. But in The Royal Writ, regular sacrifice is built into the design, and weighted with meaning: every fallen card tells a tale. It’s a clever twist coupled with instantly recognisable art and addictive gameplay.
And we can count on a strong partner when it comes to promotion. The Yogscast remains one of the UK’s coolest and most popular creator networks, and after the success of Just MAVRIX - launched with the aid of cover star Matt Jones to a stampede of submissions - we’re confident that partnering with influencers to launch new communities is the right move. Expect to see more of this in the future!
Working from the admittedly limited sample size of one, roguelike games have a good record on Just, with Lost in Random: The Eternal Die having been one of our biggest and buzziest launches to date. With a game of such quality and partners of such heft, we’re very excited for our next launch.
Come and join the fun on Just here.
